“National ID Takes a Step Forward with the Launch of the National ID Policy”

The Government of Samoa, through the Samoa Bureau of Statistics, will launch the National Identification Policy on Tuesday 29th September 2026, at the Taumeasina Island Resort, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

As Samoa gradually migrates towards a digital society, the National ID Policy intends to provide a secure and reliable digital identification system that promotes efficient public service delivery, drives private-sector innovation, and ensures our people can continue to safely participate in Samoa’s digital economy. The Policy establishes clear principles, standards, and responsibilities to guide our nationals through secure biometric identity authentication and, consequently, support service providers with trusted identity verification.

The launch of the Policy initiates the National ID Awareness Campaign to ensure the Public is accurately informed and prepared for Mass Registration in mid-2027. The campaign includes a series of radio and television talks and informational videos, posters and banners responding to important questions, such as WHY should I register? WHO is eligible? and WHERE can I register? broadcast on government radio and television, digital screens and the Samoa Bureau of Statistics social media platforms. These will be plastered in key public locations such as the Fono Fa’avae offices, hospital, market, banks, government offices, etc. The National ID webpages will also be published on the existing Samoa Bureau of Statistics website on the day – providing the central hub for the Public, to access information, updates, resources and, most importantly, to ask questions and receive responses about the National ID.
