    The Samoa Bureau of Statistics (SBS) is pleased to highlight Samoa’s participation in the 7th Regional Meeting of Heads of Planning and Statistics (HOPS 7), held from 3–6 November 2025 in Wellington, New Zealand.

    SBS was represented by Government Statistician, Leota Ali’ielua Salani, and Assistant Chief Executive Officer of the Census, Surveys and Demography Statistics Division, Taiaopo Faumuina.

    Meeting Aim and Approaches
    The HOPS brings together the most senior officials responsible for statistics and planning from across the Pacific region. HOPS provides a regular institutional interface between national statistics offices (NSOs), national planning leads, donors, development partners and SPC to build and sustain the collaborative relationships that are crucial to the successful implementation of the Strategic
    Framework for Pacific Statistics and other statistical initiatives in the region. HOPs is responsible for promotion of evidence-based policy development, decision making and planning by Pacific Island governments and leaders to improve the lives of Pacific peoples, as well as for the effective and efficient coordination of resources to support the development and production of official statistics and development indicators in the region.     Samoa’s Contribution
    Throughout the meeting, Samoa’s representatives participated in thematic discussions, shared national insights, and engaged in regional planning dialogues focused on enhancing statistical capacity and coordination. Their presence reaffirms Samoa’s commitment to strengthening evidence-based decision-making and supporting regional statistical development.
