    NEWS RELEASE
SBS continues its pursuit of making official statistics easy to understand and accessible by the general public

The Samoa Bureau of Statistics (SBS) yesterday, Thursday 13th June 2024, handed over a suite of communication products; pull-up banners on SBS services, district specific demographic information (wall planners) for Upolu, Savaii, Manono and Apolima; posters and videos to Siumu and Vaimauga 3 District Councils. This is a continuation of the Bureau’s commitment to “raise awareness, engage users and generate support among the public, civil society and institutional users to promote the understanding and uses of statistics”, a key focus of the Samoa Statistics Strategy 2022-2026.

All products were designed and developed using feedback from targeted audiences consulted in December 2023, culminating in a public launching held at Fagamalo, Savaii on 30 May 2024.

Information on SBS services including; Household & Income Expenditure survey, Birth registration, Gross Domestic Product and Labour Force & Child Labour survey findings, were part of the suite of communication products handed over today. The provision of simplified, trusted and valued official statistics for national planning, and informed decision-making purposes is work done in partnership with the Tautai Governance for Economic Growth Program (Tautai). Targeting all 51 District Development Councils is SBS’ initial approach at inclusiveness and “leaving no one behind” and in the process, achieving some of the national priorities as identified in the Pathway for the Development of Samoa (PDS) 2022-2026.
