Official Handover of Tablets from the World Food Programme (WFP)

Official Handover of Tablets from the World Food Programme (WFP)

On 18 June, the Samoa Bureau of Statistics (SBS) was privileged to receive a generous donation of Tablets from the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), officially handed over by Ms. Sabine Bongi, Head of the WFP Pacific Area Office, and her team.

This vital support is part of WFP’s assistance to SBS through training in Kobo Toolbox – a digital platform that enhances how we collect, validate, and monitor data in real time. The tablets will play a crucial role in improving data quality and efficiency across key national surveys, including the Local Market Survey, Consumer Price Index, and the upcoming 2025 Samoa Agriculture Survey (SAS).

From 16–18 June, SBS and WFP collaborated on a hands-on Kobo Toolbox training, delivered virtually, to familiarise the team with the platform’s features and explore how it can complement existing tools such as Survey Solutions. This initiative marks another step forward in SBS’s journey toward digital transformation in data collection.

The Government Statistician, Afioga Leota Aliielua Salani, acknowledged the handover as a testament to the strong partnership between SBS and WFP, and to our shared commitment to leveraging innovative tools for evidence-based decision-making to support Samoa’s development. Ms. Sabine expressed her appreciation to SBS for its ongoing commitment to high-quality data collection and noted that the donation reflects WFP’s recognition of this valuable partnership.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the UN WFP for empowering our work and investing in Samoa’s data future.
