Samoa Population-Housing Listing and Mapping Update Training

    In preparation for the Population- Housing Listing and Mapping Update fieldwork, the Census, Surveys and Demography Statistics Division of the Samoa Bureau of Statistics commenced a one week training program on Monday, 23 February 2026. The training will continue throughout the week until Friday, 27 February 2026, and is being held at the Development Bank of Samoa Conference Room, Level 6.
    The training was officially opened by the Government Statistician, Afioga Leota Aliielua Salani, who emphasized the critical importance of accurate and reliable population data in guiding and informing Samoa’s national development priorities.
    This training equips field officers and supervisors with the necessary skills to:

    • Accurately list the total number of family members in all households.
    • Update and verify GPS locations of households.
    • Update and verify enumeration area maps.
    • Effectively use digital data collection tools.
    • Uphold strict data quality and confidentiality standards.
    • Engage respectfully and professionally with communities.

    The Population and Housing Listing and Mapping Update exercise is a critical preparatory step to ensure every household in Samoa is properly accounted for ahead of the 13-week fieldwork period, which will run from 2 March to 1 June, 2026.

    The information collected will support informed national planning, evidence-based policy development, and improved service delivery across the country.
